Even small children come under pressure to learn key phrases. 'Say please,' they are told. 'Say sorry.' 'Say thank you.' It can take them a while to get the hang of it. They know they are supposed to say something but they can't always be sure what, so they hazard a guess. It can be amusing to watch them get it wrong. Yet as adults we also confuse gratitude with regret. We feel glad of what we should apologise for. Or bad about what we should be proud of. You have nothing to be sorry for this week.
